Happy Friday friends! The weekend is finally here and the weather is going to be beautiful in my neck of the woods. I'm headed to wine country for a little get-away and I can't wait to soak up the sunshine and the wine ;) In the mean time, I thought I'd give you a little update on the #MyFitSummer2016 fitness challenge (check this post for the challenge details). I'm officially half way through the 94 day challenge, which also means that summer is half over. No!!! I've been keeping up with my workouts and still allowing myself a rest day once a week if needed. Having that rest day has been a life saver on days when my schedule will absolutely not allow for a workout, I am feeling sick or my body just needs a break. The weather has been extremely hot for weeks on end which makes my outdoor cardio routines that much more difficult (and sweaty). Yesterday I made the mistake of going out for a 5k run/walk in the late afternoon with only one glass of water in me all day. It was 36 degrees Celsius with the humidex and by the end of my workout I nearly threw up (sorry for the gross visual). I will NEVER make the mistake of working out in extreme heat already dehydrated again. I usually aim for 6 to 8 glasses of water a day but sometimes I get so busy I can forgot to fill up my water glass. If anyone has any tricks or tips on remembering to drink water through out the day please let me know in the comments bar below.
On a positive note I wanted to tell you about my running shoes from Nike that have literally changed my life. I am flat footed and my ankles turn in when I walk or run (called "over pronation") and with out the proper supportive running shoes I can end up with extreme pain in my lower legs and knees. The pain hinders my workout and does not subside throughout the day. It was getting to the point where I dreaded my cardio routines and I knew I needed to find a stabilizing running shoe. I switched to the Nike LunarGlide 7 runners and they have made such an incredible difference in my runs. I no longer have leg and knee pain when I wear these shoes, I am able to run longer, I've reduced my 5k personal best time and the shoes are incredibly light & very stylish (unlike past generations of the LunarGlide). This pair pictured above is a special edition called the midnight pack and Nike recently launched the LunarGlide 8, which look even more streamlined and stylish. In case you are wondering, no, this is not a sponsored blog post. I am just a big fan of Nike sneakers, I've worn them for years and I love sharing my opinions on products that work for me (or don't work). And don't forget to follow me on my fitness Instagram account @FitForSummerGal for my daily workouts.
I hope you have an awesome, healthy weekend!
